Leading the procession...

Every month, we try to take the kids here on a field trip...get them out to see the world outside of Qingyundian. Lucky for me, I arrived in China just in time to make the field trip for the month of September! So what did we do for the day?? Well one of the nannies at the foster home owns part of a vineyard so we started off our day of fun with some grape picking!

For every field trip, each child is matched up with an adult. So meet my field trip buddy...William! Isn't he the cutest thing??

William couldn't wait to pick some grapes so we took off into the vineyard with our basket and found grapes of all varieties!

And while on our adventure, we even found some friends!

Like Timothy...
And Lucy Kate!
The kids had a blast, and it was a great way to get them out to enjoy such a beautiful day! After picking, the kids all sat around waiting for what was up next...

And to their surprise the day wasn't over! After leaving the vineyard, we traveled to a local petting zoo where we were served a traditional Chinese meal complete with chicken, rice, vegetables, fried bread, and a fried fish (needless to say I let the kids enjoy picking at the fish...)

After lunch we walked down the street to find a petting zoo of sorts...the kids were thrilled to find all kinds of (random) animals like...

peacocks...

turkeys, chickens, and geese...

rabbits...

and even goats, pigs, and ostriches!

The kids loved getting to see and pet the animals. They practiced saying the names of each kind in Chinese and English. Then they even got a little free time to play on the playground before we left...

Overall, it was a wonderful day full of joy, laughter and fun! The kids really enjoyed themselves and loved learning in a new way outside of preschool. The joy I see in their faces amazes me as they have learned to live life with such gladness and no hindrances despite their disabilities. They inspire me to do the same, and I can't help but smile about the day when they can walk, skip, run, dance and jump in their Father's presence whole and complete in Him. On that day as Psalm 45:15 says it will be:

A procession of joy and laughter!
A grand entrance to the King's palace!

So my prayer is that they may inspire you as well...may you live life with gladness and no hindrances...may you anxiously await the day when you can walk, skip, run, dance and jump in your Father's presence...and in the meantime, may you lead in the procession today, wherever you are, whatever you're doing...

Oh the places you'll go...

Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go... ( Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr. Suess)   I love this book. I really do. And it's funny just how true it seems to be. I've heard it and read it a million and one times and every time, I never thought the day would come when I would really have a choice about the places I would go. There's an order to life: preschool...kindergarten...1st, 2nd, 3rd grade, all the way up to high school graduation. Sure, I got to pick the college I wanted to attend, but I always knew I would go to college so I never had to wonder what my next step would be for 22 years of my life. But then this happened... Yep. College graduation. And everything changed. I had options. Well, ...

Smiling's my favorite...

One of my very favorite Christmas movies is the 2003 comedy, Elf , starring Buddy the Elf. There's a point in the movie when Buddy gets a job at a department store and the new manager asks him, "Why are you smiling like that?" To this Buddy simply replies, "I just like to smile. Smiling's my favorite." I can't get over that quote and the simply joy it holds. You can't go wrong with a smile. I mean think about it. It's the universal sign for happiness. Everyone recognizes a smile to mean that you have found gladness in some part of life whether it be something big or small. Oh how I long to find the joy and love that Buddy experiences in life, for how often do you genuinely smile about something without having even the slightest feeling of love and joy towards it? When I think about my time here in China, I can't deny the presence of smiles all around me. I have to admit that (though I miss everyone I love and care about back home mo...

Meet my girls...

Time is a strange thing, ya know? One thing from ten years ago might seem like it happened yesterday whereas you're convinced that the thing that happened yesterday was ten years ago. So far India appears to be this way. Though I arrived here just two-and-a-half weeks ago, it seems like its been an eternity. But at the same time, I feel like I was just in China spending time with the people and children I love so much. And with its contorted sense of time (where 5 minutes could mean 5 hours or even 5 days later), India's feeling of time doesn't get any better (yes I know you'd think that it would be perfect for me, but even I'm waiting on people all the time here). So as I'm 19 days in, I find myself trying to figure out exactly what I've been doing with my time... Since my arrival, I kind of hit-the-ground-running. The plan was for me to take over running a home for the school-aged girls that SCH recently opened in November. So basically I'm oversee...
